Execution Planner — Mechanical

8+ years RCF Thal, Nagothane, Dahej & Venna Long Term · Client Roll

Role Overview

The Execution Planner (Mechanical) is accountable to the Planning Manager for timely and accurate input of data, thorough review and analysis of schedules, and timely and accurate document production. You’ll plan and track mechanical execution on large, complex oil & gas and petrochemical projects and turnarounds — from the master schedule and critical path down to crew movement, work-front availability, and subcontractor progress. This is a long-term position on the client’s rolls with a leading MNC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and review of construction planning and scheduling, including staffing plans, manpower histograms, and project progress measurement
  • Identify key schedule and progress issues to project and project controls management to allow timely corrective action
  • Maintain working knowledge of the operating procedures for project controls and of the project’s scope of work
  • Participate in the interactive planning process
  • Develop the schedule for engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and validation activities
  • Input or update activity data, logic, and resource progress/expenditure information, and review activity durations and logic sequences on the master schedule
  • Perform critical path analysis to identify potential problems early enough for the project team to react and correct the situation
  • Review earned value analysis based on input from the construction team and contractor, and compare it to the progress reflected in the schedule
  • Support cash flow development, reporting, and analysis
  • Understand the information needed to complete each activity — from engineering, procurement, construction, clients, and others — and assist in expediting that information
  • Assist with or lead the production of planning and scheduling reports, and provide schedule input to the monthly progress report
  • Review change orders for schedule impact, and support the PMC on variations for time impact
  • Check the possibility of completing works based on area front availability with respect to other discipline plans, the maximum resources that can work if all fronts are released in one go, local resource availability, and P&M availability — especially cranes
  • Closely monitor material receipt and spool receipt
  • Prepare the crew movement plan
  • Conduct weekly progress review meetings with subcontractors in the presence of Project Managers, Construction Managers, and Site Engineers
  • Highlight any failures or slippages of plans to senior management
  • Certify subcontractor invoices
  • Test the contractor’s construction plan/schedule for contract compliance and logical sequence, and test the schedule’s integrity for logic links, resource loading, and critical path/float analysis
  • On a monthly basis, evaluate schedule submissions for status versus plan in terms of resourcing and quantities, as a benchmark to support payments
  • Assess schedule variation impact and support variation negotiation with the expected time delay, monitored against the baseline
  • Prepare look-ahead schedules and forecasts, and ensure consistency with the plan
  • Integrate subcontractor schedules into the master schedule

Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree (BE/B.Tech) in the respective discipline
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience, including at least 4 years in an execution planning position for large, complex projects
  • Industry-relevant planning and scheduling experience in positions of successive authority and responsibility
  • Experience in large-scale oil/gas and petrochemical capital projects (process plant / pipeline) and turnarounds
  • In-depth experience in construction planning, cost control, estimating, and budget preparation
  • Working knowledge of design, procurement, and construction/field service workflow processes
  • Core competency in field work execution method and sequence, drawings / specifications / codes / mode of measurement, resource productivity and consumption norms, and system compliance
  • Experience with scheduling software, spreadsheets, and word processing software, including advanced project management tools such as Primavera P6, AutoCAD, Nevis framework, and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in facilitating risk assessment, mitigation, and contingency planning for projects
  • Knowledge of the AWP concept is desirable
  • Excellent communication skills, with command of both written and spoken English — able to communicate effectively with project management, other project leads, and the client
  • Able to identify potential problems and elevate them to the appropriate level(s) of management
  • Certifications of continuing education and training related to the project controls and planning/scheduling discipline
  • Strong skills that foster team growth, cohesiveness, productivity, accountability, and achievement of project objectives
